Margo Bekker during a breathwork sprint with participants visible in the background

Founder

Not a guru. A builder.

Margo Bekker didn't invent a breathing technique. She studied six of them, trained with practitioners across three continents, and built the infrastructure for people to actually practice together. Breath Lab Space exists because Margo solved her own problem first. After a decade in corporate marketing, she hit a wall that meditation apps and weekend retreats couldn't fix. Breathwork did, but only when she practiced with others. Solo sessions lasted three days. Group sprints lasted three months. The community was the variable. So she built one. She recruited teachers from the Netherlands, India, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Russia. She designed the sprint format: 7-30 day intensive cycles with daily live sessions, 100+ participants, and real accountability. Not a course you buy and forget. A practice you show up to because 100 people are waiting.

"I didn't want to become a teacher. I wanted to find the best teachers in the world and give them a room full of 100 committed people."

Philosophy

The science of breathing

Breathing is the only autonomic function you can consciously override. Your heart beats on its own. Your liver filters on its own. But your diaphragm takes instructions. This gives you a direct lever on your autonomic nervous system. Slow, deep breathing activates the vagus nerve, shifting your body from sympathetic (fight-or-flight) to parasympathetic (rest-and-repair) dominance. The measurable result is improved heart rate variability (HRV), the single best biomarker of stress resilience. Higher HRV correlates with better immune function, faster recovery from illness, improved cognitive flexibility, and lower all-cause mortality. This is not alternative medicine. It is physiology. Every technique in Breath Lab Space targets a specific physiological pathway. Wim Hof elevates norepinephrine and trains cold tolerance. Pranayama improves CO2 tolerance and extends breath-hold capacity. Grof breathwork accesses non-ordinary states documented in psychiatric literature since the 1970s. Mindfulness breathing reduces cortisol — meta-analyses across 39 randomized controlled trials confirm it. We don't ask you to believe. We ask you to measure. Track your HRV before and after a 14-day sprint. The data speaks.

"Breathing is the only autonomic function you can consciously override. That makes it the most direct lever on your nervous system."

Values

What we stand for

Evidence

Every technique has peer-reviewed research behind it. We cite studies, not gurus. If the data doesn't support a method, we don't teach it.

Community

Solo practice has a 90%+ dropout rate within 30 days. Sprints with 100+ people have 78% completion. The group is the method.

Diversity

Six techniques from five countries. No single lineage, no single teacher, no single belief system. Your body responds to different methods at different times.

Access

Pricing starts at $10 for the self-help kit. The free trial is 24 hours of full access, not a locked demo. Breathwork should not be luxury wellness.

History

How we got here

2019

First sprint

Margo organizes the first 7-day group breathing sprint with 18 participants and one Wim Hof instructor.

2020

Online pivot

Lockdown forces the community online. Participation jumps from 30 to 120 per sprint. Turns out, removing geography removes barriers.

2021

Multi-method

Pranayama, Grof, and Rebirthing teachers join. The single-technique community becomes a multi-method lab.

2022

100+ sprints

Average sprint reaches 100+ participants. Weekly classes launch alongside the intensive sprint format.

2023

International faculty

Teachers from 12 countries. Corporate program launches after three CEOs independently ask for team sessions.

2024

4 million breaths

Community passes 4,200,000 collective breaths. The Evolver program (12-month deep practice) launches.
